A couple of weeks ago, my good friend, fellow photog, and Canadian resident Erika (whom I met at WPPI 3 years ago) was in Colorado with her partner Shawn for a vacation. The two of them drove down from Regina, Saskatchewan with the main goal of catching a certain show at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater on the edge of Denver, with plenty of stops on the way before and after.
Since Colorado is, in fact, a lot closer to Oklahoma than Canada, I decided to take advantage of her being so close and drove up to see her for a few days, along with my boyfriend Kurt. (Sidenote: Erika is a pretty great wedding photographer) We had no real agenda other than to hang out, spend some time in the mountains, and maybe show them some of Kurt and I’s favorite spots around the Front Range area.
I made sure to take photos of Erika and Shawn basically the entire time we were hanging out, which included grabbing some breakfast at Voodoo Donuts, a few posed-ish photos behind our Airbnb, and of course lots of candids and spur of the moment images as well.
All in all, I’d say it was an eventful few days with great people in one of my favorite places — and during one of the best times of year to visit, weather-wise. Plus, it was Shawn’s first time in the U.S., so cheers to that! (Also, even though Shawn wasn’t impressed with American diner-style grits for some reason, you should still check out his podcast.)
Make sure to scroll to the end…our last full day together involved quite the surprise 🙂
Side note: I had no idea this was coming. A little while later, Erika asked me if I knew or if I planned the photo where she and Shawn are looking at the mountains afterwards, to which I replied that I did not — I simply kept shooting through the moment, letting it unfold as it may.
